This is a muscular J-shaped reservoir and has a capacity of 1.5 liters. The stomach has several anatomical regions:
Fundus: This is the highest part of the stomach and functions as a reservoir to accept food after it passes
through the lower esophageal sphincter.
Body: This is the central largest portion of the stomach and contains the acid secreting glands which contributes to digesting semi-solid food in to smaller particles.
Antrum: This is the lowest part of the stomach which eventually pipes a stream of tiny particles, partially digested liquid, through the pyloric sphincter into the small intestine to be absorbed.
